Katie A. Shepherd, Partner

Katie joined Thompson, Miller & Simpson after serving for sixteen years as Chief of Staff and Counsel to the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. In this role, she provided legal and administratve counsel to the Chief Justice. She also worked extensively with judges and circuit clerks across the Commonwealth and with elected officials and staff in the legislative and executive branches on matters of concern to the court system.

Katie is a magna cum laude graduate of the University of Kentucky and a graduate of the University of Kentucky J. David Rosenberg College of Law, where she was a member of the Kentucky Law Journal and the National Moot Court team. Upon graduation, Katie served as a staff attorney with the Kentucky Court of Appeals. She later worked as a litigation associate with the firm of Bell, Orr, Ayers & Moore in Bowling Green, KY and as a litigation staff attorney with Bass, Berry & Sims in Nashville, TN.

Katie is a member of the Kentucky Bar Association, where she serves on the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee and on the planning committees for the Annual Convention, Kentucky Law Update, and New Lawyer Program. In her prior role she provided support to the Supreme Court Rules Committee, the Civil Justice Reform Commission, the Business Court Docket Advisory Committee, the Judicial Workload Assessment Committee, and the Judicial Mental Health Commission. She previously served as a member of the Capital Planning Advisory Board, the Jefferson County Community Engagement Project Planning Committee, the Human Trafficking Task Force and as a parent representative on the School-Based Decision Making Council for the School for the Creative and Performing Arts at Bluegrass.

Katie lives in Lexington with her husband and their two daughters.
